Syrinx is the name for the vocal organ of birds. How does that relate to environmental design? In 1962, Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring documenting the harmful effects of pesticides on birds. This book is credited with launching the environmental movement. DDT was banned ten years later. Syrinx is the anti-thesis to Silent Spring. The hallmark of a healthy ecosystem is the sound of birds singing.  There are environmentally sound methods to deal with insects with out using pesticides, primarily being a diverse and healthy bird population. We want nature to provide the sounds of Syrinx.

ABOUT

Philip is a graduate student attending Hawaii Pacific University in the Global Leadership and Sustainable Development Program. His studies have taken him around the globe exploring the old world, the third world, and the wilderness. He has been studying urban agriculture systems as the key solution to the millennium development goals. As director of the sustainable living laboratory, he operates several integrated systems including vermiculture, aquaponics, rabbitry, container gardening, raised bed gardening, and edible landscaping.

James has a natural born mechanical ability to understand how things are put together and come apart.  He has developed his talent from an early age easily progressing into designing in 3D virtual reality. He calls himself a gamer. But it goes beyond that. He activily seeks out computer bugs, documents, and reports them. He is a master at MineCraft. The IT  skills learned as second nature in the up and coming generation are light years ahead of all the previous generations combined. He wants to study mathematics and engineering. James wants to become an officer in the Marine Corps.
