The design for the Gibson's calls for three raised garden beds placed between several existing haliconia plants and a young palm. The soil being very sandy and heavy laden with salt, is a reason to build raised beds with a fresh soil mix. A thick hedge will help shelter the beds from the salty air coming from seaward. Sun rise shadows quickly receed into the hedge with the remaining daylight on the garden in full sun. 48 Square Foot of garden space will be plenty of room for a continuous year round organic salad bar for the family. This requires planning out grid rotations with monthly plantings of new seedlings. This set up requires a ten minute retreat each morning for checking the soil moisture levels and providing water as needed. In the evenings, it is best to check over the tender plants by hand and harvest as needed. Also, a worm compost bin is sheltered under the edge of the car port providing a continuous supply of garden ready compost. I hope this set up with bring the Gibsons health and happiness for many years to come.
