SEED BANK OF SYRINX

When was the last time you saved seeds?  If you like to garden, I bet you have a collection of envelops with seeds in them stored away in a cool dry place. This is your seed bank. Of all your seeds, which one is you favorite that you like to plant and grow? You may have several that you like. I do and I have more seeds then I need to keep my garden going. I would like to share what I have with you in exchange for several of your favorites. We can exchange seeds at the next seed share. Look for mine at the next Permablitz.

There are a few guidelines that I am trying to follow. I'm not sure if anyone else has these written down somewhere but I was thinking that I only want to share seeds that I collected from second generation plants I grew from seed. In other words, I go through the cycle twice of planting, growing, and harvesting each seed type before I sharing it with you. This ensures a couple things. The first thing is that I know the seeds will grow and this eliminates the possibility of the seed being a hybrid or a GMO type with a terminator gene. We dont want to grow those kinds of seeds especially the later type which is harmful to the bees. The second thing is that we know that the seeds will be true to type and can probably figure out exactly what species down to its Latin name. The is just how species are identified and once you can figure out that then you know the history of the seed, where it originates, how it has been used both for culinary purposes and for medicinal purposes. Many times we can even know the nutrician content of the plant, how to propagate it and properly cultivate it. So thats what I am attempting to do with all the seeds in my seed bank. I'm not saying that you have to go through the same procedures to share seeds with me. But if you can that would be great.

I will put tabs up along the side of the third generation seeds that I plan to share with you.
